Vanessa Pasqualetto
Vanessa studied Plant Biology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Since graduating, she has worked in biology labs and botanical gardens in Canada, Germany and South Africa. Together with her partner and young son, she now lives in the Lake Constance area of Germany.
Vanessa is a self-taught artist and began painting botanical watercolours in late 2004. Although she has explored other media – charcoal, graphite and coloured pencil – Vanessa is drawn to painting with watercolours (with dabs of gouache here and there). In particular, she enjoys painting macro imagery botanical watercolours. In her accurate and finely detailed paintings, she strives to capture on paper the intrinsic beauty of flowers and foliage.
In April 2005, Vanessa had her first (solo-) exhibit at the Botanical Garden Potsdam, Germany. Shortly thereafter, she was commissioned to illustrate new interpretive signage for this garden. Vanessa also lived a couple of years in South Africa, where she worked as a pollination biology research assistant and free-lance scientific illustrator. While in South Africa, Vanessa exhibited in KwaZulu Natal at the Blue Caterpillar Gallery -Butterflies for Africa and in the Western Cape at the Cape Gallery-Annual Wildlife Exhibition, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens Biennale 2006, and South African Airways Cape Town Flower Show 2006.
More recent exhibits include Artisan Exhibition ArtPlace88 and a number of art markets in Switzerland.
